HSMDANCE2008
PERFORMANCES
There will be no performances during the month of November; however, keep checking back for all the details on our December shows.
STYLE
Breakdancing, breaking, b-boying or b-girling is a street dance style that evolved as part of the hip hop movement among African American and Puerto Rican youths in Manhattan and the South Bronx of New York City during the early 1970s. It is normally danced to pop, funk or hip hop music, often remixed to prolong the breaks, and is a well-known hip hop dance style. Breakdancing involves Toprock (movement while standing up), Downrock (movement on the ground) and Stalls (acrobatic pauses in movement). A breakdancer, breaker, b-boy or b-girl refers to a person who practices breakdancing. Breakdancing may have begun as a building, productive, and a constructive youth culture alternative to the violence of urban street gangs. Today, breakdancing culture is a remarkable discipline somewhere between those of dancers and athletes. Since acceptance and involvement centers on dance skills, breakdancing culture is often free of the common race, gender and age boundaries of a subculture and has been accepted worldwide. [WIKI.COM]
DEVELOPMENT
We would like to extend an invitation to all our dancers to join us for a workshop or two at GSP Edmonton, a dance convention taking place on November 15 & 16 at the Shaw Convention Center. The workshop is put on by Harbor Dance, a big company/studio from Vancouver. It is great training and an unforgettable experience for all dancers. For more information, please visit their website: www.groovestreet.net or talk to your child's instructor.
REGISTRATIONS
For those who are wondering, we will be accepting registration forms in January for our second semester. For more information please contact us at info@hsmdance.com.
MERCHANDISE
Many people have been inquiring about smaller sweat pant sizes. We are working on getting a shipment of them before Christmas, but we cannot make any promises. In any case, we should have some by the new year for those of you who are anxiously waiting! We also will be selling newly designed hsm scarves for the holiday season.
